New Virginia Deer Hunting Rule Causes Outrage In The Hunting Community

So, your past few hunting experiences are about as popular as a fart in the cab of your truck, huh?

I’ve been there, and well… it sucks.

Straight up…

There’s no other way to say it.

It’s not like you’re one of those jerks who don’t care about anyone else and will shoot at the bushes if they move, regardless of what might be in there.

You really care about taking care of nature, hunting safety, picking up your trash when you leave and if another hunter needs help you will gladly give them a hand.

You’re probably a staunch supporter of the game laws, animal rights, trying to do your best to be respectful to nature.

You prefer fair chase over hunting with dogs, but you don’t disrespect the dog hunters because of how they prefer to hunt.

But, nobody seems to give a damn.

And you’re beginning to Wonder…

Is It Worth It?

The Truth:

I have some more bad news!

Let me turn the light on for you for a moment.

The Virginia DGIF passed a law banning certain hunting products from the state because they want us to believe they care about the deer here in Virginia.

Follow along with me for a moment, I need to make a point here…

Police Dept’s Are Taking A Beating

At this time in our country the world has become aware of what some believe to be abuse by certain police departments and a few rouge cops.

The news channels are broadcasting cell phone videos taken by citizens of police beating people ruthlessly, under the guise of a lawful arrest. When the police were beating a man in Baltimore, it gave a passerby an opportunity to catch it all on video.

It was the rough ride tactics by the police officers on the way to the police station, off camera, that is said to have contributed to his death. These rough ride tactics are not something the public has the opportunity to document with a video camera therefore the police get away with what some believe to be illegal activity.

It is these behind the scenes tactic’s of all government agencies, not just police departments that has the public outraged. There is no wonder… why most people have zero trust for all government officials.

The attitude of these rouge police officers is: I can use whatever force I want, whenever I want and the citizens we serve can’t do anything about it. All police officers get a bad rap because of the nature of their job.

The sensationalism delivered by a video camera can warp the viewer’s sense of justice, before all the facts are delivered.

The administrative actions taken by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries I am about to describe, is proof that Administrative agencies throughout this country have the same attitudes as these rouge police officers do. They believe they can do what they want, when they want and no one can do anything about it.

The DGIF couldn’t educate the public on the real issue, nor have transparency, because in truth they had a Secret Agenda.

Under a ruse, of solving a problem related to “Blue Tongue” in the deer population they passed a law that had nothing to do with Blue Tongue in order to stop the sale of deer urine in the State of Virginia.

The DGIF shoved these administrative laws down the throats of the people and said:
What You Going To Do About It”?

Use One Crisis To Implement Your Secret Agenda

The 2014 – 2015 deer hunting season was one that was different for all hunters. The deer population throughout the State of Virginia dropped sharply in 2014 because of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) also known as blue tongue disease. At first blush it seemed the experts at the DGIF were concerned about the deer population throughout the State.

They wanted the public to believe they were interested in implementing a measure of prevention for this disease. What they did was nothing short of a magicians trick to make the public believe one thing in order to impose a law for something totally unrelated.

Facts Of The Situation:

EHD is not contagious,… It is transmitted by a fly and it is out of human control to prevent it. The DGIF no matter how much they care about the deer population cannot do anything to prevent this disease.

Uninformed hunters and others confuse EHD with another deadly disease known as Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). The fact is; the two are totally different diseases.

Chronic Wasting Disease is; Highly contagious, Incurable and a fatal disease 100% of the time in Cervids. A Cervid is a whitetail deer, mule deer, moose and elk. CWD is spread through saliva, urine, feces, and gland oil.

There have only been 7 confirmed cases of CWD in the State of Virginia after testing over 2700 animals, either shot by hunters, road kill or in captivity that died because they were sick. The first were all killed by hunters in western Frederick County—a doe during November 2009, a buck during November 2010, and a buck and a doe during November of 2011.

The Rough Ride Tactics of The DGIF Begin

Under the guise of preventing the problem with Blue Tongue Disease from last year and to protect the deer population our administrative officials did the unthinkable. They took advantage of the confusion between EHD and CWD to impose their secret agenda.

Virginia’s new deer lawAdministrative Code of Virginia 4VAC15-90-293 E., which passed with a 9-0 vote, states; “No person shall for the purposes of taking or attempting to take, attracting, or scouting any wild animal in Virginia possess or use any substance or material that contains or purports to contain any excretion collected from a cervid, including feces, urine, blood, gland oil, or other bodily fluid.

Let’s Take A look At What Causes CWD?

CWD is caused by prions, that can’t be treated by medicines because the scientific community doesn’t understand them. The CWD remains live in the environment for years after the animal excretes them. They can infect other deer, elk, moose and mule deer that come in contact with them.

The law that was passed preventing the sale of products like Code Blue and Tinks 69 had to do with CWD, but there is no problem in the State of Virginia with CWD so why pass a law that specifically address CWD?

Keep The Toxic Stuff Out Of The State

Here is the thing I found most ironic about this new law… there is no law enacted nor proposed to be enacted that prohibits the sale of the real stuff within the borders of Virginia. Suppose there really is such a problem with deer urine, and it is such a threat to our deer population that the DGIF felt they had to ban it all together.

The DGIF should take every measure possible to protect the Health, Safety and Welfare of the Public (and animals) and not allow such deadly fluids into the State after July 1, 2015!. But they didn’t.

For example, Marijuana is illegal in the State of Virginia along with cocaine, heroin and a plethora of other drugs and… You can’t sell them legally within our borders. Doe pee will be illegal to use in the State of Virginia on July 1, 2015, but the big box stores can still sell doe pee.

Common sense says; You can’t have it both ways.

Government agencies can and do play both sides because it’s simple economics’… They want the sales tax revenue generated from the sale of doe pee and they want the State Tax revenue from the profit of the sale also.

Did someone just say…Illegal Fireworks?

What About Deer Pee From Those Harvested In State?

Good deer hunters will take the pee sack out of any deer they harvest and use it to attract other deer in that area. The new law prohibits the use of this urine as well.

Hold up… CWD is not a problem in the State of Virginia. The deer shot, was in the State of Virginia… the pee is not contaminated with prions… but it is illegal to use.

The phrase in the new law ….”or other bodily fluids” is put there on purpose. A pro hunter will extract the tarsal gland from a buck harvested and use it to draw the attention of other bucks. Same thing, the deer is in the State of Virginia, no chance of CWD but it’s now illegal to use the tarsal gland when deer hunting.

How Do They Enforce The Law

Will having doe pee in your possession be punishable the same way as having a bag of weed in your possession? Follow along while I take a look into the proverbial crystal ball…

I can see it now… a local police officer is watching the surveillance videos at the local big box sporting goods store because a shoplifter, totally unrelated to you, was reported stealing items from the store that morning.

The local police officer while looking through the stores video files see’s you, Joe Hunter on video buying contraband… A 1 oz bottle of doe pee (you menace to society you). Immediately he gets on the horn and calls his buddy the game warden.

In a collaborative effort they run a stake out (that’s what they do to criminals) and watch you traveling to and from your house during hunting season.

Like with drug dealers, they devise a plan… under the guise of a sobriety check point, the local cop sets up a road block at the time they know you’re traveling home after hunting.

Because you look like a hunter, and hunters could have contraband (profiling), the officers claim is (s)he has probable cause to search your vehicle (secret rouge cop trick).

Not only do you go to jail when you get caught with 1 oz of doe pee but… the game warden has the authority to confiscate your vehicle, and everything in it.

I can see it now…  Joe Hunter will be booked and escorted by the guard at the local jail to his cell. After he has been stripped searched (they don’t want contraband like doe pee in the jail), Joe arrives at a 2 man cell block that is his new home.

His new roommate asks “what you in here fer”. Joe Hunter replies… I got busted with an ounce… of doe pee in my possession.

While I wrote this as an attempt at humor, the cost to the taxpayers of Virginia to enforce this dumb law, and the fallout from it won’t be a laughing matter.

Unless it’s one of the Administrative officials, who passed the law or one of their family members, that gets busted, hauled off in hand cuffs… and paraded in front of the local news camera’s for breaking this silly law….

Then it will be friggin hilarious.

When Is To Far – To Far

For the most part I agree with DGIF when it comes to protecting the wild game. And for the most part they get it right.

If someone within the Administrative agency doesn’t like hunters using certain products, don’t piss on our leg and try to convince us it’s raining.

Your Secret Agenda was to get rid of these products and under the guise of the current crisis (EHD) you passed a law that did just that…. You have gone too far.

If you create a law under the guise of fixing a problem that can’t be fixed (EHD) and with the slight of hand of a magician… fix a problem that doesn’t need to be fixed in order to stop hunters from using certain products… You have gone too far.

If you have gone too far in your Administrative role, you deserve the public bashing you get by the public the same as a rouge police officer beating someone.

The only thing saving your ass is: the sensationalism that is delivered by a video camera of a police officer beating someone, is missing. When administrative officials usurp the law it’s the same as the “Rough Ride Tactics” of the police… out of the view of the public.

Without this sensationalism, your safe and it stops the public outcry for your resignation and prosecution. It will catch up with you…. ONE DAY!

Attn All Hunters: Time To Wake Up!

I am glad that you stayed with me on this because I have a very valid point to make here. What the DGIF did was in excusable. If they didn’t want the products in the State just say it, don’t do your underhanded hide behind the government vail of secret meetings.

Now All Hunters: know the officials of the DGIF won’t play by the rules… They just proved it.

As a hunter stop the blood clot belly aching and do something about it. No one promised you a friggin rose garden. You have to be a warrior. You have to attack this like a doe protecting her fawn from a pack of hungry coyotes.

The DGIF actually did all hunters in Virginia a favor. Get rid of the gimmicks, the sprays, the shiny new toys and learn to hunt.

The manufactures are hunting you the hunter any way. Don’t believe me, I show you exactly how they hunt you… with their Competitive Intelligence in my Hunting Guide System.

I show how Hunting guides don’t rely on these products to produce game for those who come to hunt on their land. Hunting guides use tried and true hunting techniques that bring the game on their land, keep them there and they know how to find them.

When you become dependent on commercially made products that you buy in the sporting goods store, you put your success at hunting in jeopardy every time you go in the woods.

The secret to learn here is;  hunters are in control of nothing…. Almost!

Nature will throw you a curve ball like it did last year with “Blue Tongue” and the Gov’t can pass laws that can prohibit our doing or using hunting products like it did this year.

But you the hunter… can put a dent in the States budget.

Just don’t buy the shit! Buy only what you need and cut the sales of hunting products by 50% throughout the State, thereby reducing the revenue of the State, retailers and the manufactures and better yet keep the money in your pocket so you can go hunting more often.

So, get your butt off the couch, stop being lazy and learn how to hunt. When you do your won’t need to buy a bunch of junky hunting products.

Read my article Piddlin and Diddlin and you will see exactly what I mean.

It won’t be long, if you don’t know how to hunt you may as well stay home.

They call it hunting… Not Killing.

If you’re a beginner, and you’re starting from scratch, what’s the best way to learn how to hunt in 2015?

It’s Simple!

My research of over 55 years tells me; do what the hunting guides do and learn how to hunt. See how Hunting Guides Get R Done…

    Hi Jim,
Thanks Man. Well Done. Great Article. You have a well written article that deals with the Truth and Reality.
As you know, I am not a hunter anymore BUT believe there has to be some authority to support nature. I also believe there are more laws made to increase the “Cash Flow” than any other reason.
Nature is the best control. I am a believer that if we leave the hunters alone, they will provide the control we need but agree they must be policed.
Thanks for a job well done..
Hope your year is a really good one..
